![]() ![]() ![]() (June 24, 2013) – KENNEDY SPACE CENTER – On June 29, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will open the doors to the world’s most comprehensive and interactive attraction devoted to NASA’s 30-year Space Shuttle Program – Space Shuttle Atlantis. The model of the shuttle is used in another game called Space Station Infinity.CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.Space station modules/spacecrafts launched Space Shuttle Endeavour (named after Thomas Cook's first ship, was a replacement shuttle for Space Shuttle Challenger).Space Shuttle Atlantis (named after a research vessel).Space Shuttle Discovery (Was named after Thomas Cook's second ship).Space Shuttle Challenger (Was named after a British corvette).Space Shuttle Columbia (Named after the Apollo 11's "Columbia").Space Shuttle Enterprise (Named after the USS Enterprise NCC-1701).The list follows the order in which they were built. There were six shuttles build however only five were capable of spaceflight. The external tank was the only non-reusable part of the shuttle. Five were built and launched on 135 missions, two of which ended in disaster. The Shuttle's legacies became very known in famous missions and rockets, and the Space Shuttle became one of the most famous and well-known rockets in history.Ī picture of the Space Shuttle in real-life.ĭesigned as a partially reusable rocket, the space shuttle started operations in 1982. These orbiters were Atlantis, Discovery, and Endeavour. The three orbiters were then placed in museums. Finally, in 2011, Space Shuttle Atlantis, after the retirement of Discovery and Endeavour, made the program's final launch. STS-27R was the mission that Atlantis almost went through the same fate as Columbia. NASA postponed/cancelled future missions once again, and tried to create a better heat shield. A second disaster happened in February 1, 2003, when Space Shuttle Columbia burned up while trying to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere due to a hole in the heat shield caused by a foam strike during launch. This postponed/cancelled future shuttle missions until NASA found a solution to fix it. All seven crew members of the shuttle were killed. The Shuttle program was doing well until January 28, 1986, when Space Shuttle Challenger had a disastrous disintegration due to an O-ring malfunction caused by lack of maintenance. This didn't occur until STS-63, As the shuttle didn't dock with space stations before this mission most missions carried the Spacelab module a joint program with the ESA. The Shuttle was designed to shuttle astronauts between space stations. STS-1 occurred on April 12 which was also the 20th anniversary of Vostok 1, the first manned spaceflight in human history. In 1981 the first launch occurred using the Space Shuttle Columbia this was STS-1. In 1979, the Space Shuttle was about to be used to carry an Apollo Command Module to keep the then Skylab in orbit. The Space Shuttle Program started in 1977 with the Approach and Landing Tests using the test shuttle Enterprise, named after the Star Trek ship. But if you spawn a Space Shuttle (with payload) it will have the exact same Space Shuttle (Columbia, Challenger etc.) on the Real Life mission. In-game, when you spawn in a Space Shuttle (not the ones carrying payloads) can spawn Space Shuttle, Columbia, Challenger, Endeavour, Discovery and Atlantis. Space shuttles are capable of docking with space stations in orbit. There are three other variations of the Space Shuttle in-game, one which carries the Hubble Telescope, another carrying ISS components. The Shuttle has 3 stages, being the Boosters, External Tank, and Orbiter, with the boosters and external tanks being required to be dropped once used or they will make the space shuttle fall due to weight to thrust comparison. It gives 5,000 Research if it goes higher than 30k studs or 2,000 if it goes 20-30k studs. The Space Shuttle was one of the first few rockets released when the game first came out, costing 12,500 Research. 6 Space station modules/spacecrafts launched. ![]()
